The Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB) is the most highly anticipated trail-running event in the world. The UTMB event happens each year either at the end of August or beginning of September. This year, the elite of the trail-running world, around 10,000 runners, will come to Chamonix Mont-Blanc to participate in one of the event’s races between the 27th of August and the 2nd of September 2018.
The Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (main event) starts in Chamonix, on the French side of Mont-Blanc and follows the route of the Tour du Mont-Blanc, passing through France, Italy and Switzerland. Although this route is usually completed in 7 to 9 days by hikers, the majority of runners will take 30 to 45 hours to reach the finish line. Runners will pass through beautiful valleys, forest paths, stunning peaks and challenging rock faces. This foot race, widely regarded as one of the most difficult in the world, is 166km long with over 9,600 metres of elevation.
